Soft and warm Karatsu stone lanterns. We have prepared mini sizes that are easy to incorporate into small gardens and interiors. They are exquisite pieces that embody the rustic texture and colors typical of Japan's Karatsu stone, showcasing meticulous craftsmanship by artisans.

    About Sunsyoan style lantern

The Sunsyoan style lantern is characterized by its hexagonal shape. It is one of the three great garden lanterns and is famous for being located in the tea room "Hitoutei" at Ninna-ji Temple. When placed on a base stone, such as a garden stone or stepping stones, it stands out beautifully, creating a rich illumination despite its small size. The lantern features a simple structure without a base, pole, or intermediate platform, consisting of just two components: a one-piece cap and the firebox. Weighing 4.5 kg, it is lightweight enough for one woman to move, making it an easy size to use in the home.

Karatsu stone, with its rustic texture and color.

Karatsu stone is a type of andesite quarried in Karatsu City, Saga Prefecture. It is soft and easy to carve, and until around the Showa era, it was widely used in northern Kyushu primarily for sculptures and gravestones. However, nowadays, it has become a rare material due to the popularity of granite.
The characteristic feature of Karatsu stone is its subdued brownish hue. In addition to being hand-carved by artisans, it is finished with an antique patina, making it blend well in Japanese-style spaces such as gardens. Its rustic texture and color, typical of Japan, impart a soft and warm impression, making it a remarkable piece.
