京都・勧修寺書院の前庭にある特殊なスタイルの灯篭です。徳川光圀公による寄進とされています。火袋やむくりのある笠は雪見型に近く、雪見型を長方形にしたという説もあります。平庭に多く据えられ、モダンなムードを楽しめる作品です。大きくて背の低い火袋と、短形の火口が印象的な灯篭です。短いが、中が四角にくり抜かれた竿や、思い切り広がった薄いむくり屋根など、全体的にのびやかで軽快なデザインです。

Kanshuji Temple Lantern
Said to have been a gift from the feudal lord Tokugawa Mitsukuni, this distinctive lantern stands in front of the study hall at Kanshuji Temple in Kyoto. Often considered a rectangular adaptation of the snow-viewing lantern due to its shared curved roof and candle box design, it features a hollowed-out pole and a boldly wide, thin curved roof. Despite its short stature, the lantern exudes an airy and light design, and when placed in flat gardens, it accentuates a modern ambiance. This lantern has an impressive large, low fire box and a short, narrow opening.
