Uses Kurama stone from Kyoto Prefecture
Kurama stone is a famous stone from Kyoto that is well known throughout the country. As one of the Seven Kamo Stones, it is a stone material that is deeply rooted in Kyoto's garden culture.
It is broadly divided into Hon-Kurama stone produced in Kurama, Tamba-Kurama stone produced in the Tamba region, and Koshu-Kurama stone produced in Yamanashi Prefecture.
It is characterized by its hard, calm dark brown color and rough stone surface. The inside is whitish in color, but the iron contained in the stone oxidizes and turns the surface to an iron rust color.
It has been used in Japanese gardens since ancient times and has played an important role in expressing wabi-sabi. It is mainly used in its natural form as a shoe removal stone or stepping stone, or processed and used for hand washing basins and monuments.
They are made of natural stone and hand-carved by artisans. Therefore, each one has a different color and expression, and the color changes over time. It's fun to wonder what kind of stone you will receive.
